Stockholm (3/10)

by Tony Medley

Runtime 92 minutes.

R.

This is sooo slow and full of talk for something that’s supposed to be a heist movie. Actually it’s slow and full of talk for any kind of movie.

Written and directed by Robert Budreau, "based on a true story” it tells of a couple of guys, Lars Nystrom (Ethan Hawke) and his buddy Gunnar (Mark Strong) who invade a Stockholm bank and take several hostages, including Bianca (Noomi Rapace), who is a wife and mother of two.

It doesn’t turn out as easy as Lars and Gunnar had imagined and they have to take hostages and hole up in the bank negotiating with the police and bank officials for several days. In the meantime the hostages had become friendly with the robbers and the term “Stockholm Syndrome” was born.

Apparently intended to be comedic, this one is a soporific drag.
